Boxers are conditioned by their weight classes. This requires them to maintain a certain weight during fights. Failure to achieve such weight limit during official weigh ins may disqualify them unless they can reach the required weight at the time of fight. This would mean rapid lose weight using a dramatic crash diet that would greatly influence their performance in the ring.

What Should a Boxer Eat?

Fighters usually have a health team that monitors their bodies and weight. This includes nutritionists that create fight diet plans suitable for their fighters. A fight diet usually consists of foods rich in carbohydrates, fats and proteins. These are all important to provide a boxer the nutrition and energy that he needs.

Carbohydrates help boxers to slowly release energy for a period of time and helps replace lost glycogen stores. Moreover, carbohydrates help increase a boxer’s stamina during training and fights. Beans, yams, oatmeal, fruits and whole-wheat grains are examples of natural carbohydrates that a boxer should have in their fight diet regularly.

Proteins are essential for tissue repair as boxers usually experience muscle tears during fights or even trainings. Protein prevents permanent damages on these tissues and at the same time, proteins are a source of energy as well. Food rich in proteins include eggs, chicken, lean beef and tuna.

A fight diet should also have dietary fats. Though excessive fat consumption may cause unwanted increase in weight, fats are needed by boxers to maintain internal body function. Essential fats and fatty acids are necessary for prostaglandins production. Prostaglandin is a type of hormone that can keeps the body in the working order. Walnuts, seafoods, olives and avocado are food sources of these.

Water of course is one of the most important parts of the fight diet plan. A fighter should always have enough water to prevent dehydration. Boxers and other fighter artists are well are recommended to have at least 10 glasses of water a day during training and is increased during fights.

What are the Foods that a Boxer Should Avoid?

If there are foods that a boxer should definitely eat, there are also foods that should be excluded to his or her fight diet. These are fast foods, fried foods, those that are rich in saturated fat and sugar and processed food.

These may provide boxers bursts of energy but only for a short period of time. As these foods are rich in fat and sugar, these can cause easy fatigability, sluggishness and unwanted gained weight.

Fight diet plans are essentially designed for intense fighting conditions. As the fighter’s body needs more nutrition and energy as compared to non fighters, fight diet ensures them that their body can withstand strenuous trainings and fights and can enable them to leave the ring victoriously.

Ensure that you are using the correct boxing gloves for the activity you are doing and that they will protect your hands adequately. Some cushioning for shock absorption on contact is beneficial.

Make sure that when you punch you contact the boxing mitts or punching bag with the flat part just after your knuckles. Your fingers should be tucked under with the thumb on the outside. If you tuck your thumb on the inside of your fingers you take the risk of breaking it when punching hard.

Start with both hands up beside your ears, protecting your head. Whenever you punch you need to bring your hand back to your head. This gives you a longer punch which allows you time to gain the greatest momentum, more speed and thus a harder hit.

As you straighten your arm ensure that you twist your hand so that the thumb is slightly down on contact and that your wrist is flat. This will decrease the likelihood of any wrist injuries on contact.

If you are a right hander then you should have your left leg forward. In this instance you would jab with your left and cross with your right. If you are a left hander then you have your right foot forward and you jab with your right and cross with your left.

Ensure that you stay up on the balls of your feet so that you can move lightly and quickly. When ducking a punch you should swivel on the balls of both feet. Don’t plant one foot as you cannot move effectively in that position.

Keep your eyes on your partners boxing gloves or boxing mitts so that you are ready for the next punch.

Use these techniques along with superior boxing gloves, boxing mitts and punching bags to get the best workout possible.

The Importance of Shadow Boxing For a Boxer

Shadow boxing is the name given to the practice of executing the choreography of the different aspects and modes of boxing. Can you imagine what would happen if a stage play with different dance scenes did not have the scenes mapped out with choreography, well its the same principle with boxing. It must be well practiced and deeply understood by any boxer. It may come across as a simple and plain thing to do but in actual fact it can be highly complex and out and out tricky. Anyone doing it must fully concentrate solely on what they are doing.

These drills helps the boxer visualize his opponent moving on his feet and trying to figure out the best attack measures as well as defensive tactics. In every single round the moves of defense and attack always surface. Differently from sparring which draws attention to the motion that happens when two fighters are in conflict in the ring, the practice of shadow boxing can play games with someones thinking.

With every ounce of your willpower and determination you should plan and execute your thrusts of attack against your invisible opposing boxer. Try to get a fix on the places your opponent may target to weaken your defenses. This will sharpen your ability to throw offensive punches and build up your mobility in the ring.

This workout generally takes about a hour to do, utilizing dynamic and static stretches. Somewhat like a warm up, this work out gets every muscle ready for an intense and strenuous physical activity that may go on for a few hours. A boxer working with a mirror can be a very good idea as it helps the boxer judge the moves hes doing, so he can see if they appear precise enough, and iron out any kinks in his repertoire.

This training is said to be a great exercise for someone to build up there own will power because the boxer needs to get in touch with the fact he needs to totally control his own boxing maneuvers and actions. This exercise can do the following.

Sharpens one focusing abilities. Visualization is very important in shadow boxing. One has to prime ones mind, for a top performance when training, or participating with a match in the ring. There’s no end to what you can think.

It helps you turn into a man from being a boy. This will give you an insight about how you feel you are doing in life. It will build up your skills. This regime is designed to improve your skills and build up new ones. Its great cardio exercise and improves your health.

With any endeavor that involves discipline and sacrifice to improve, there will be pain, it is up to you how much you can take or how strong your will is.

Like anything there are some down points to shadow boxing, but overall shadow boxing is a great way to improve your skills and hone your craft.

There are normally three judges present at the side of the ring to score the bout and assign points to the boxers, based on punches, defense and knockdowns. The boxers have an assigned corner of the ring, where his or her coach may manage them at the beginning of the fight and between rounds.

The bouts are won by boxers normally by points given by judges but bouts can also end in split decisions and draws. A boxer may win the bout before a decision is reached through a knockout which is when a boxer is knocked down during the fight and the referee begins counting and should the referee count to ten, then the knocked-down boxer is ruled out as knocked out. A boxer can also win a bout by a technical knockout which is when a boxer is ruled by the referee as unable to safely continue to fight, based upon injuries or being judged unable to effectively defend themselves. When a boxer is knocked down, the other boxer must immediately stop fighting and move to the nearest neutral corner of the ring until the referee has either ruled a knockout or called for the fight to continue.

When in the ring boxers are prohibited from hitting below the belt, holding, tripping, pushing, biting, spitting or wrestling their opponent. They are also prohibited from kicking, head-butting, or hitting with any part of the arm other than the knuckles. If a boxer violates these rules then they may be ruled as fouls by the referee, who may issue warnings, deduct points, or disqualify an offending boxer which may cause an automatic loss depending on the seriousness of the foul committed.

Boxing is getting popular among the youth of the country and there is a sudden rise in demand for the boxing equipment. Boxing equipment includes a pair of right sized durable gloves, boxing boots that have a light sole, knee pad, arm pad, helmet, boxing tapes that fasten the gloves to the hand, shin pads, elbow pads and gum shield.

In addition a boxer can buy boxer’s apparel like vests and shorts that allow easy movement on the ring. Boxing can cause grievous injuries and so you must be very careful in selecting your helmet. The punches received on the face can cause gum damage and teeth damage. To avoid this, a boxer should use good quality gum shields. Only a professional boxer needs to practice on a personal punch bag. A boxer undergoing training will not need to buy a punch bag.

These are prohibitively expensive and only a professional boxer can afford to buy these punch bags. The casual boxers can use the punch bags that are usually found at the boxing clubs to get their training. A boxer must always ensure that he wears right sized gloves. This would give him the required confidence at the ring. He could aim his punches accurately and pack more power in it only when he wears a pair of right sized gloves.

The Women Boxing Archive Network (WBAN) is a complete site dedicated to women’s boxing. On this website you can find everything from current and archived fighting stats, to fighter profiles and interviews. In addition you can look up any woman boxer’s rankings and even find a full archive of knockouts. You can learn the history of women’s boxing (which is quite interesting, by the way), and learn some boxing trivia. But the cool thing about this site is that it comes highly recommended by both USA Today and ESPN – not bad!

So I bet you’re asking, “Why would I want to keep up with women’s boxing?” Because it’s interested – that’s why! Let’s face it; there are some women who were meant to be boxers, and that is an intriguing concept. For example, Maggie Fitzgerald played by Hilary Swank in the Oscar-winning movie Million Dollar Baby had a passion for boxing that could not be deterred. Of course, this is a fictional tale, so I’ll give you an example from reality TV. If you ever watched the Bad Girls Club on Oxygen, you would have seen a “wild child” named Ty who had grown up rough and was used to living even rougher. She got into an altercation with a girl on the show and boxed her around like a man fresh out of training. I guess her stint in jail may have played a role in her expert combination punches, but needless to say, she was approached by a boxing gym wanting to train her after she was booted from the show, and she excitedly took them up on the offer.

It is interesting to think that in a world where women are thought to be dainty and, well, feminine, that there would be some who want to step outside of that box. But there are those women, and they are found on various websites about women’s boxing.

Some of these websites provides an opportunity, not just to learn more about women’s boxing, but to also provide upcoming boxers with help stepping into the ring. As an amateur boxer, you can sign up on their registry and then you will be entered into a database with tons of women boxers who are fighting professionally and as amateurs. The registry is a way for women boxers to contact other boxers, as well as to be seen by promoters and matchmakers who will then contact them for a potential fight. Women boxing websites stress, however, that if you have absolutely no training, you must get some before signing up in their registry. They don’t want first-timers, but they will accept “fresh meat.”

If you are a guy visiting a woman boxing website but none of this interests you, then you’ll be happy to know there is a “hot women” page filled with pictures of boxers when they’re looking pretty for the camera. Of course, these pictures are in the member zone with all of the other cool photos. As a member, you will have access to online streaming videos of fights, extensive records on all women boxers, and a complete women boxer’s photo gallery. Membership is reasonably priced if you choose to have a membership, but if you’re really interested in learning more about what’s going on in the world of women’s boxing then this membership will probably be worth it. Just remember to always do more extensive research before spending your money.

A boxing match between two women is called foxy boxing. These are quite different from boxing matches between men. Boxing matches between men focus on power and stamina. Foxy boxing too has a focus on stamina and power, but also adds a couple of dimensions that male boxing matches do not provide. Foxy boxing often adds a touch of sultriness to boxing matches.

The context for these foxy boxing matches often lean towards the sexual, thus providing a form of entertainment that can only be described as erotic. To add to the sensuality, the contestants are often clad in skimpy outfits like bikinis. Some foxy boxing matches even feature topless women. Women’s boxing was first demonstrated at the 1904 Olympics. In 1988, the Swedish Amateur Boxing Association gave permission for events in women’s boxing. This led to the revival of women’s boxing as a sport.

An interesting tidbit here is that in the United Kingdom, when women’s boxing was first sanctioned in 1997, the first official match was to have been held between two 13 year olds. However, the media was so hostile to the entire idea that one of the contestant actually pulled out of the match. There are many categories of foxy boxing matches, ranging from the amateur to pro-amateur to complete professional. It is important to remember that this is not the same thing as women’s professional boxing, which is the sort we refer to when speaking about the Olympics and other recognized competitions.

In the United Kingdom, women’s boxing was pioneered in the 1980s by Sue Atkins. Unfortunately, she did not receive any official support and had to build awareness about women in this sport, even though public sentiment was not with her. The first British woman to be issued with a license was the 1996 Women’s International Boxing Federation welterweight title winner Jane Couch. Recently, women’s boxing has received a boost with the entry of the daughters of very famous retired boxers.

Sports boxing is considered by many to be one of the best physical workouts you can engage in. And, the good news is that you don’t have to seek out the boxing gym in a seedy neighborhood to gain the benefits. The reason this sport is regarded as being such a fine activity is because it is really a whole-body fitness activity that tones muscles and strengthens your core, helping your overall fitness levels. When most people think of the boxing gym, they conjures up images of an old brick building that is probably dilapidated and in the part of town you would think twice about venturing into after dark.

And, the images of the interior don’t get much better: dark, smoke filled, smelly and filled with all kinds of characters who may bring back nostalgic memories and glimpses into a time gone by.The boxing gym for decades was the place to go to find the aspiring athletes of the day and the hopeful boxers who dreamed of becoming the next champion in their weight class. Dreams of maybe even becoming the next famous heavyweight boxer, the one being touted in the boxing news and about whom everyone is talking.

But things have changed and today, the boxing gym of modern times is an attractive place to workout and enjoy improving your fitness levels. It often give boxers the opportunity to use some amazing state-of-the-art electronic fitness equipment and also have access to some of the simple and basic equipment as well. Some of these basic items include the old standby of the punching bag, the leather medicine ball, the treadmill, the boxing gloves and the simple, but effective, jump rope.

All of these items are key elements for training of this sport and are useful in improving cardiovascular health, increasing strength and enhancing endurance. Having the boxing gym on the premises of your own home will help you to be sure that you attain the best possible fitness level through your exercises. You will also stay in the best form because of easy access and convenience.

Records of boxing are dated back to the Summer era of the 3rd millennium BC and the Egyptian era of the 2nd millennium BC making it the oldest sport in the history of time, subsequently fighting with fists the most natural form of combat to man. Boxing then moved on to ancient Greece, where barbarians would sit face to face and punch each other until one of them was dead at times spikes and the like were used to quicken the process and most of the time the opponents were naked with the exception of wrappings to protect their arms.

Fortunately, around 688 B.C., this form of boxing passed and boxers soon were practicing on punching bags and were allowed to wear leather straps and breastplates to protect their arms and chests. Boxing then took on many forms, depending on the country in which it grew popular. For example, China merged boxing with wrestling during the Zhou Dynasty and utilized a combination of attacks, including throws and pressure point attacks. Ancient Buddhist history also mentions a form of boxing particularly, a boxing match between Buddha’s cousin and half-brother.

In the Buddharata Sutra, a martial art form of boxing was written about and this particular form of boxing was known as Vajra Mushti. Boxing also took its place in ancient Rome, being more popular among prisoners attempting to win their freedom by winning a boxing match. Boxing did not last long in Rome, however, although it gained so much popularity that even free men and nobles fought in matches. In 500 A.D. Theodoric the Great prohibited boxing in any form.

Boxing took off in London, however, and early fighting around the year 1743 didn’t have any weight limits or really, any rules of any kind. Many boxers fought with bare knuckles and this made for a very brutal sport thankfully, rules such as “no blows below the belt” were enforced and the sport began to morph into the martial art that we know today. Olympic boxing and women’s boxing also gained in popularity, however, the two have not generally mixed well.

Boxing is becoming more and more popular these days. The basic boxer must utilize at least one of the two necessary qualities that can be best used when fighting an opponent who hopefully possesses the opposite. One of the qualities is speed. You must be faster and quicker to the punch or respond more quickly to the block than the other boxer. Obviously this can vary through the rounds of a boxing tournament, as your condition is definitely going to be weakened by each round. Having a better speed and mental reaction time will almost always overpower that of the other necessary quality of being a boxer. That other quality is power. If you can t pack that knockout punch then you definitely need to up your training schedule and advance your current workout.

Rarely does one wake up one morning and make the decision to be a boxer. Unless of course it is as a child and that dream is maintained throughout childhood and steps towards that goal are actively taken throughout adolescence. This way, is how most boxers become the professionals we see on TV today. It definitely is not a vigorous year or so training schedule that will give you what you need to be a boxer, but the gradual training that one increases in power, strength and ability over many years. This is however not to say that one cannot accomplish great strength and ability over a shorter period of time if the right amount of time can be invested in extreme and rigorous training without too many days off so to speak.

You can purchase all the highest quality top of the line products that promise you the impossible, but in this case it truly is entirely up to you and how much time, effort and energy you really want to commit. If you do choose to make that commitment then here are a few more tips to help get you started on the right path. Begin by following what is well known to be the ultimate 12 week training guide. This can easily be found through internet resources. The same goes for what you truly must dedicate yourself to throughout the 12 week training. This well known guide not only will not offer you any days off, but it will not offer you much of any time off.
